Joycity, Korean game publisher of the top ranking board game app Game of Dice, is recently accusing users of exploits and demand money to reinstate their accounts. While such move is hardly ever seen in the Western market, the Korean company apparently strives to set new channels for apps monetization. The company has published the notice as follows to warn of the account suspension without giving out any specifics.
The action has predictably alarmed the gaming community, in which users have received e-mail notice from Joycity for compensation. On one extreme, one user is reportedly requested to pay over $40,000 in order to recover the suspended account.
It’s uncertain how many players have elected to settle the requested payment, but one could easily associate the incident with the worldwide spread of WannaCry last year which, coincidentally, also happened in May…
