The High Speed Rail is finally in service beginning today.  The project has been suffering from intermitted delays and the childhood dreams of riding high speed rail-as advertised on TV-come into fruition.  Why not take a look at the fares from the official MTR site..

The adult ticket fare ranges from $70+ to $3000s+.  Interestingly, the price seems to be independent of the ride time.  For instance, despite the similar riding time of about 3 hours, the second class ticket to Chaoshan costs $209 but it costs $607 to Changshanan!    Yes, in case you are wondering, Changshanan is farther away than Chaoshan from Hong Kong.  It could indicate something about the railway speed.  Also, the traveling time will vary depending on the number of intermediate stations.

Look like it is a good idea to visit Chaoshan for the sake of the high speed rail experience…
